Labyrinth Lite Edition on iPhone

What is it?

Labyrinth Lite Edition brings the old school fun of labyrinth into the palm of your hand. You tilt your iPhone to move a marble into the finish “hole” while avoiding other holes and obstacles along the way. There is a full version ($6.99) that expands upon the ten levels available in the Lite Edition as well.

How much does it cost?

Free.

Who is it good for?

Casual gamers. Anyone who enjoyed Labyrinth as a kid or who never got to experience the joy that was the big tilting wooden box that was Labyrinth. People who ride public transportation and are looking for a quick fix, temporary cure for boredom.

Summary

You know the game, now it’s just iPhone-d. It’s easier than the original, but the most impressive part about this application is how responsive the game is to the slightest movements of the phone. It’s no where near as frustrating as it was using the two knobs on the original game, but we think that’s for the best because no one wants to throw their phone on the ground just because some pixels fell down into some circular dark pixels. It’s mindless, retro fun.

Keep it or Delete it?

Keep it (or upgrade to the full version that comes with 500 levels)

Why review a demo? Because sometimes, the demo is enough.

While we’re sure that there are some competitive labyrinth players out there, for many of us, just having ten simple levels to play through is enough to keep us entertained for a few minutes here and there. Of course, the guys at Illusion Labs would love for us to get hooked enough to buy the full application (and chances are, we will), but the demo does the job in showing just how impressive this simple application is.

Woot!

Woot!

There’s really not a whole lot to say about this application, other than it’s really fun, responsive, and accurate. Where the original knobs on the game were often frustrating (or challenging, depending on how you look at it), using the iPhone’s accelerometer to detect the slightest tilts up, down, right, and left, is truly a joy.

The concept is simple and like any casual game for the masses, you can pick up and play in a second. There’s nothing to learn, nothing to explain - there’s a ball, some walls, and a goal to reach.

Is it addictive? A little bit, but we feel like ten levels was actually a good amount of fun to provide to give users a feel for what they were in for.

Is it worth $6.99 to get over 500 levels? Probably, but it’s definitely worth a few minutes of your time to at least check out the ten demo levels.

Labyrinth has been downloaded nearly 4 million times at the time of this posting, proving that in this age of PS3, Wii, XBox 360 and ever-improving graphics, there’s still a lot of love for the originals.
