Quantum of Solace for iPhone

What is it?

Basically, it’s a downloadable commercial for the latest James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace. It has previews, interviews with the crew, some synopsis/cast information that you could get anywhere, a music video, and a link to buy the new Bond song on iTunes.

How much does it cost?

Free.

Who is it good for?

Not really anyone. Even Bond fans will get bored of this one. There is hardly anything of interest to the common person within this application that you can’t find elsewhere.

Summary

When you think of Bond, you think of action. When you think of Bond, you think of hot women. When you think of Bond, you think of cool gadgets. What kind of Bond-branded gadget has load times for lame videos?

This one.

The Quantum of Solace application is even more of a commercial than Pink’s application, simply because there is hardly anything (unless you count interviews with the crew, who unfortunately, much of the world has never heard of) new to check out on the app. For downloading the application, you’re rewarded with generic information, previews, and a music video… at least it’s free.

Load times on an iPhone app outside of the initial load? Really, James Bond?

Immediately after loading the app, we clicked on “Videos,” only to be greeted with a “Loading” screen. James Bond would never have a loading screen! There is something incredibly ironic about the fact that the video screen not only loads, but that it actually froze while we were using it (not the regular crash, legitimately froze).

Even after the videos load, outside of two previews and one music video starring Alicia Keys, chances are you’re not going to care about much else in videos or the application. There are interviews with crew members from QoS, but they’re reminiscent (or could be exactly the same) of videos that have legitimately been on the Internet for months.

Where are the exclusive clips? Where are the hot Bond girl pictures? (or ANY exclusive pictures) Where is the “Hi, I’m Daniel Craig and you’re watching 007 on your iPhone” followed with the “DAH NAH NAH NAH!!!!!” music? What’s that? There’s nothing?

Well, poop.

James Bond is supposed to be slick, tech savvy, and an all-around really cool guy with an insatiable libido. There is none of that to be found in this truly poor application that provides nothing for Bond fans.

Even the areas that could easily have been spiced up feel like they’re barebones. In the cast section, we’re treated to thumbnail pictures of the 007 crew, but no bios, pictures from the set, or anything that makes us feel cool for carrying 007 in our pocket.

Why cant we click you??

Why can't we click you??

It’s almost shocking how little there is to say about the 007 Bond is Back application. There is so little interactivity or interesting content in the application that it’s almost like being force fed 30 second commercial clips, just on a more personal level (remember those days before DVR?).

Unlike Making the Band on MTV, which is also a commercial posing as an entertainment product (but at least it’s entertaining), the 007 application lacks any sort of entertainment value or exciting insight into what will be one of the biggest action flicks of Q4.

Since the Bond application didn’t provide any insight into the series or the movie, we’ll link out to some Bond sites for you courtesy of Mashable to check out to learn about the movie and the man so that you won’t be disappointed by this application like we were.

And since it’s one of the only things worth checking out on the application, if even to just look at Alicia Keys, here’s the Alicia Keys and Jack White music video for “Another Way to Die.”

Now you don’t have to waste a download like we did. Enjoy.
